Assignment #5 – Alphabetical Vision

Hopefully you know your alphabet because you are going to need that knowledge for this next assignment. Your task is to photograph different things that begin with each letter of the alphabet. For example, A – apple, B – bird, C – clock, etc. Don’t get hung up on finding just the right thing for your letter – use what you see and piece it together as you go. Your goal is to shoot different images of things that represent at least 10 letters in a row. It will not count unless they are in consecutive alphabetical order, so don’t just pick and choose your letters. Try using your camera’s black and white setting now and again and remember to look for contrast, patterns, and varying greys. Have fun!

Assignment #4 - Colour Challenge

We will use the Richmond Rd. Campus for this challenge. You need to select a colour and shoot only objects of that colour. By the end of the session, you will be surprised at how much your selected colour jumps out at you. Consider creative ways to capture your colour and remember our "rule of thirds" and "leading lines". Have fun!

Assignment #3 - SMUS Community

We are lucky to go to school in such a vibrant and welcoming community. Your assignment is to take photos that represent the amazing community we have at SMUS. Consider the people that make it special, your favorite places, the beautiful scenery, things that are symbolic of our school, anything that reminds you of our wonderful SMUS community! Try taking shots from different angles – crouch down low, find a way to get up high, try to get something interesting in the background, get in close and use the macro setting; most importantly, have fun!

Assignment #2 - Forced Perspective

Today we will focus on Forced Perspective Pictures. These are the kind of pictures that create an optical illusion where things in the picture seem larger, smaller, closer, or farther away than they really are.

There are several examples if you follow this link: https://www.google.ca/search?q=forced+perspective+photos&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiJppP6r8TMAhUUImMKHbkeBm4QsAQIGw&biw=1280&bih=678

We will have an entire class to try out some different options. Find a few different people to work with and get creative. Determine a variety of different options before heading out and find new people and props to set up your ideas.

Assignment #1 - Self-timer Selfie

Your assignment is to take a selfie. But it can’t be just any selfie. You must use the timer setting on your camera and set up a shot with you in it. Be creative :) Consider what would make a good background. How could you place your self in the shot – right in the middle, to one side, at the top or bottom? Maybe you can add some action to the picture? Will you strike a pose, how will you interact with the camera? You will need to take a series of pictures based on this assignment and then post a maximum of ten to your personal page on our blog...

Welcome to our photography exploratory for the last rotation of the year! We will receive different assignments each week, then post our work to this site. In sharing our photographs like this we get the opportunity to showcase our hard work, learn from each other, and feel some joy from viewing the work of our peers. Remember, "There are no bad pictures, that's just how your face looks sometimes!" ~Abraham Lincoln
